Highlights

A woman on the boat from the Island Ameland to shore asked me if I always seek out the light, as a photographer. She spontaneously started telling me about her experience with light on her holiday. How the light on the Island is so different from where she lives, also near the sea. That every time she sees the sun setting differently on the Island than on shore, she is amazed by the light.

This became a highlight in my day. These conversations always happen more frequently when I am travelling. When I was sitting on a bench just watching the sunset, an older man asked if he could sit next to me. He needed to catch his breath after climbing the dunes. We were amazed by the beautiful sunlight setting, and told each other what the most beautiful thing we saw was.

Conversations like this. Light like this.

They are highlights in many ways.

You are a work of art. The whole of you.

It is not easy, accepting every part of being human.

Lord knows I have my struggle with accepting every part of being human.

The yes - this element, I love. But this one… not so much.

Through my lens I see the whole. The pain, the struggle, the beauty, the life, the grief, the love, the joy. The whole of being human.
And it reminds me that every piece of you together, as a whole, is a work of art.

This reflects back to me - too. It is a practice of learning to love and accept every part. Every part of being human.

And some days - this is more easy than others. And that is okay.

This is just a reminder, of the work of art that you are.

Every bit. Every piece. Like an artwork put together, everything is right where it should be.

Never finished. Always evolving.

And beautiful, like a work of art.
