Woolen socks are the best for hiking. They are also great for lounging in front of TV or keeping your feet warm while in bed.

My problem with hand knitted socks though is their looks, as most knitters go for the heel flap and finishing at toe, usually leaving a tiny hole. If you ask me, socks made this way just look wrong and are offensive to my sense of aesthetics.

So I've learned how to knit seamless toe socks with the perfect heel. The two secret ingredients are called: Judy's magic cast on and short rows.
