How garment businesses can reduce waste
More and more businesses and consumers are becoming aware of the catastrophic environmental impact of the fashion and textile industry. Waste is only one part of the equation, but with the rise of fast fashion, it is becoming a major concern for many. This is an issue throughout the lifecycle of an item of clothing. Excess materials in factories are often discarded as waste rather than being reused for other items. Deadstock garments that brands do not end up selling are often burned and buried, equating to more than 1.5 billion items each year. Even customers are chucking away barely worn clothes to swap them for the latest items that match current fashion trends.
