On June 15th, 2024, PAE was in WOLk, Rotterdam NL, with performances by sieger baljon, WeiZen Ho, Toine Klaassen, and Nina Boas.

"After sitting stately on a stool with her face covered for quite some time, Nina Boas is the last to begin her performance. It consists of four parts that she performs in a circle. Perhaps placed in the four cardinal directions, I think. She serves us a pink, sweet drink, lights scents, draws a figure on paper with a mixture of black ink and cinnamon powder, hands out books from which we can read parts aloud and reads from a subsidy report by her father and an article about his work. For each part she wears a different mask that I always find very special. Her performance seems to be a collection of her sources of inspiration for her current work. It has a lot to do with Indonesia, where her father was born, lives and worked as an artist. Digging for your sources to bring them to light in a quest between origin, cultural identity and cultural appropriation." (Martine van Ditzhuyzen)

"Outside in the small garden, adjacent to WOLk, sieger baljon is busy. He is performing 30 rituals incessantly, based on an 8th-century list of 30 Saxon and Frisian traditions that had been banned by the church. He sings, declaims, in a language unknown to me (Old Dutch and Old High German, it turns out), shares nature observations that he made that morning, dances, makes rhythmic compositions with objects, shifts earth, runs, honors his ancestors. It is a physical battle of attrition. Sometimes he is lost in his own world, sometimes he communicates directly with us. That variation is pleasant. I then feel part of his ritual. He often acts with his upper body bare and in the cold of that day I feel sorry for him. But it reflects something of the experienced pain, fear and especially the strength that was needed at the time, due to the prohibition on performing the rituals." (Martine van Ditzhuyzen)

Through the WALK WITH ME Rotterdam callout, WeiZen Ho had residents in Rotterdam and its surrounding areas, who have offered her a walk that is meaningful to them.

About the sharing process at Leeszaal:
WeiZen has also evolved this process to include an ensemble improvisation sharing from the walkers and herself, as an embodied response to their shared experience.

PAE in WOLk, June 15, 1 - 5 pm, 2024 Wolphaertstraat 19, Oud-Charlois, Rotterdam, NL, Free entrance, donations for the artists are welcome **AN AFTERNOON OF EMBODIED SHARING WITH ARTISTS ENGAGED IN THE INTERSECTION OF PERFORMANCE ART AND RITUAL PRACTICES** At the invitation of @wolk.community , we have arranged this event with the intention of revisiting the essence of the "Echoes of Shamanism" event held in 2018. However, since then, our views have changed, leading us to reassess our usage of the term "shamanism." The upcoming gathering, brought together by Nina Boas and ieke Trinks @ieke_trinks , invites artists whose journeys align with the discourse at hand. Each artist brings a unique trajectory shaped by encounters, teachings, ancestral traditions, and personal experiences with the spirits of the land, elements, connections with animated objects, and dream practices or altered states.
