Construction of Kromme Rijn College!
Before - during - and after!

For SPO Utrecht, we had the opportunity to design the new building for the secondary special education school Kromme Rijn College. Construction is now well underway and is going fast!

On the right side, you can see the existing building, which will undergo a full renovation so that it once again provides a pleasant and functional learning environment. The left side (the low-rise section) was unfortunately in poor condition and has therefore been demolished. In its place, a new part is being built, which will house a sports hall, a community space, and several instructional rooms.

In the renovation, we aim to restore the existing structure as closely as possible to the essence of the original design. For the new building, we created a plinth using bricks carefully selected to match the existing ones in both color and size. For the upper floor we designed a wooden structure with proportions that echo the characteristic windows of the original building, creating a harmonious balance between old and new.
