In the latest issue of NATO Joint Warfare Centre's Three Swords Magazine, Major Ralph Dekker (NLD AF) of the NATO Command and Control Centre of Excellence explores and reviews C2 capability lifecycle governance.

"C2 governance requires balancing multiple valid perspectives on C2, which can be challenging for disparate organizations to achieve. Therefore, we need an agreement on what C2 is and how best to govern it. C2 capability lifecycle governance must also promote continuous evaluation. Mechanisms should be in place to regularly assess C2 effectiveness and adapt as needed."

The key to success lies in continuous adaptation, the integration of new technologies and ideas, and a commitment to overcoming traditional service-specific mindsets.

On Thursday, October 31, 2024, Brigadier Mike Fayers (J6), along with a delegation from NATO Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (HQ ARRC), visited the NATO Command and Control Centre of Excellence (NATO C2COE).

The visit centered on a lively discussion about the digital transformation, the future of 'a' Command Post (related to our study) and the current operational requirements.

"To manage the increasing complexity of modern operations, strengthening the connection—and the speed—between Concept Development and Doctrine Development is essential." emphasized Brigadier Fayers.

Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (HQ ARRC) provides NATO with a rapidly deployable, flexible headquarters capable of acting as a Joint, Land, or Corps HQ for operations and crisis response. Its multinational ethos, blend of cultures and innovation, strong professional reputation within NATO, and proven track record in interoperability set it apart among its High Readiness Force (Land) (HRF(L)) peers. ARRC is headquartered at Imjin Barracks in Gloucester, United Kingdom. Although the United Kingdom serves as the HQ ARRC’s ‘framework nation,’ contributing approximately sixty percent of the overall staff, the ARRC is fully multinational, with personnel from twenty-one NATO and Partner Nations.
