Over the past few weeks, we have delivered the last Marine Environmental Awareness Courses (MEAC) of this schoolyear to three groups of students from the Maritime Officer program at STC Rotterdam. We discussed sustainability challenges in the maritime sector.

The group of students who chose the technical track were surprised by the underwater noise of a ship. The impact that an invasive species, such as the golden mussel, can have also made an impression. They believe that the future of shipping lies in nuclear energy.

The students who chose the nautical track also view nuclear energy as one of the solutions for making the sector more sustainable. They concluded the course with an individual pitch to their (future) crew on a sustainability theme.

De afgelopen weken hebben we aan drie groepen studenten van de opleiding Maritiem officier van het STC Rotterdam de Marine Environmental Awareness Course (MEAC) gegeven. We spraken en discussieerden over duurzaamheidsuitdagingen in de maritieme sector. De groep studenten die de richting technisch heeft gekozen waren verbaasd

ver het onderwatergeluid van een schip. Ook de impact die een invasieve soort kan hebben zoals de gouden mossel maakte indruk. Ze denken dat de toekomst van de scheepvaart ligt bij kernenergie.

De studenten die de nautische richting hebben gekozen, zien kernenergie ook als één van de oplossingen voor het verduurzamen van de sector. Zij sloten de cursus af met een individuele pitch voor hun (toekomstige) crew over een duurzaamheidsthema.

We wensen alle studenten succes met het afronden van hun opleiding en veel succes in hun toekomstige carrière!
