Based on hands-on data collection by Maud van den Heuvel, Anouk Lindelauf, PhD (Maastricht UMC+) presented early findings at on the use of HemoClear® for postoperative cell salvage in ICU settings.

Preliminary results suggest it enables safe reinfusion of shed blood, reduces reliance on allogeneic transfusion, and aligns with PBM and EACTAIC guidelines.

☕️Caffeine, a non-selective antagonist of the ADORA2B receptor found on red blood cells (RBCs), appears to interfere with key metabolic and hypoxic responses, including glycolysis and 2,3-BPG synthesis, both essential for oxygen delivery under stress.

These findings suggest that caffeine may compromise ATP production and increase hemolysis during storage.
