The Entry Level Left

If your identity is based more on what you consume and based less on your values, your actions, and what you produce, it’s no wonder you may find yourself with a fragile sense of self, being led around by your ego. The ego is a tool of endless desire and self identification with attachments. Though often shamed unnecessarily, the ego is a tool, but under current material conditions, control systems like social media exacerbate this tool of survival into a tool for manufacturing consent.

Attachment is the root of all suffering. Thus, Identity based consumerism is a distraction from the realities of oppression, exploitation, disease, and dysfunction that exist underneath the surface with every purchase of sweatshop garment, cigarette, funko pop, video game, fast food meal, or mass produced commodity you purchase to affix to your identity.

Class will always be a more important factor in uniting people, which is why capitalists and their media industrial complex work so hard to sell you an identity — making you easier to exploit, control, subdue, and farm.

There are many ethnic, consumptive, and subcultural identities, but only two classes.
