APPLE Technique Breakdown: Ask: Pose a specific, predetermined question to the entire class before identifying a student to answer. Pause: Allow a 3–5 second "wait time" for students to think about the question, which reduces anxiety and encourages more participation. Pick: Call on a student by name. This often involves using a "cold call" method (randomly or non-volunteers) to ensure all students, not just early hand-raisers, are engaged. Listen: Carefully hear the student's response, fostering a comfortable, respectful atmosphere. Expound: Expand on the student's answer, praising correct points and scaffolding the information to deepen understanding.
