This International Wellness Day, we’re reminded that wellbeing goes beyond physical health. It’s about feeling safe, supported, and connected to your community.

At SafeHavens, we work alongside vulnerable children and families to create environments where they can thrive, through access to education, safe spaces, and community-led programs that nurture both mental and physical wellbeing.

Our In-Country Manager, Sita Ram, grew up in the Gorkha District in Nepal and now lives in Kathmandu, where he supports programs serving vulnerable children and families.

“I am proud to be part of SafeHavens because the organization believes in protecting vulnerable children and giving them a chance to dream, grow, and thrive.”

We are so honored to have Sita Ram on the SafeHavens team. You can read more about him on our website: safehavensglobal.org/news

🩵 Did you know? Outside of work, Sita Ram is a motivational speaker, storyteller, and singer who enjoys inspiring others through his words and music.

Today is World Health Day! 🌎

At SafeHavens, we see the power of science and evidence-based solutions every day.

From strengthening access to education, to working with local partners to build safer, healthier communities, progress happens when knowledge is shared and communities are empowered. 💙

SafeHavens Board Director, Sanjeela Gandhari, shares her story about growing up in Nepal, and how regular donations reshaped her future.

"Growing up in a community where access to education was never guaranteed, I learned early that even small opportunities can create profound change. During my master’s studies, I was sponsored by one of the generous women from the USA with just $100 per month for two years.

To some, this may seem like a modest amount. To me, it was life-changing. That support covered basic needs, eased daily stress, and, most importantly, allowed me to stay in school and complete my degree. That $100 did not simply support my education; it reshaped my future."

At SafeHavens, we see happiness in the small, powerful moments. Like when a child discovers a new book in the community library, or when a young person realises their future is full of possibility.

In many of the communities we work alongside, joy is an act of resilience. It grows in classrooms built against the odds, in shared meals, in new opportunities, and in the knowledge that someone cares.

The International Day of Happiness reminds us that investing in education, equity and opportunity doesn’t just change statistics, but creates moments of happiness that ripple across families and generations. 🌼

The kids at our Deaf community home RHERI, looking very suave and colorful after celebrating Holi earlier this week.🎨

Holi, is the Hindu "Festival of Colors" and "Festival of Love," and marks the arrival of spring, the end of winter, and the triumph of good over evil.

Today, on World Hearing Day, we are proud to announce a new partnership between SafeHavens, RHERI, and the American School for the Deaf.

This collaboration is seeking funds to support 44 Deaf students at the RHERI Deaf Community Home in Nepalgunj, Nepal while strengthening local educator capacity through training and technology infrastructure.

This is not a short-term project. It’s the creation of a sustainable model designed to build long-term inclusion and leadership within Nepal’s Deaf community.

Today, we celebrate women and girls around the world who are shaping the future through science and discovery — and we’re reminded how access to learning spaces makes this possible.🔭

Through our Neighborhood Library Project, children and young people can explore science in ways many never had access to before.

From using computers for learning, to gathering for moon and night-sky observation evenings that spark curiosity about the world beyond their communities.

These spaces do more than provide books. They open doors to imagination, learning, and futures where girls see themselves as scientists, innovators, and leaders.

The scientists of tomorrow might just be discovering their passion in a neighborhood library today. Find out more at safehavensglobal.org.

Today is the International Day of Education 📚

Through our Neighbourhood Library Project, SafeHavens helps create safe, welcoming spaces where children can access books, build literacy skills, and discover the joy of learning — right in their own communities.

Thanks to the generosity of this community, we now have over 4,800 books in the library for children to access.

You can find out more by visiting safehavensglobal.org or checking out Alpine Learning Hub - Nepal.

Last month, several children from our deaf community home, RHERI, heard music for the first time through bone conduction headphones.🎧

Dr. Bobbie, who was in Nepal carrying out wellbeing checks with the children in December, was there to witness this first hand.

“It was nothing short of magical. I’m not sure that the three of them will even sleep tonight. They were so excited and emotionally overwhelmed.”
