Record Rainfall Triggers Devastating Floods and Landslides in Nepal

The death toll from floods, landslides, and other natural disasters in Nepal has risen to 132, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Rescuers recovered 14 bodies overnight from two buses buried by a landslide while en route to Kathmandu. The tragedy struck just 10 miles from the capital. On Sunday, another 23 bodies were discovered at the same location, with workers racing against time to find others who may still be trapped under the debris.

NEPAL: Flash flooding in Melamchi kills 7, leaves 60 missing

June 17, 2021: Flash flooding in Helambu and Melamchi areas of Sindhupalchowk district of Nepal have claimed lives of seven people and left sixty others missing.

The recent flood and landslides have damaged around 260 houses and displaced more than 600 people.

A severe cyclonic storm is a currently strengthening tropical cyclone in the Bay of and has become the second severe of the 2021 North Indian Ocean cyclone season.

Severeal low lying areas including East Midnapore and West Midnapore and Jhargram. Hooghly, Kolkata and North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas have been kept under high alert.

At 11:30 UTC today, the cylone Yaas was located about 200 km SSE of Paradip, 290 km SSE of Balasore and 290 km SSE of Digha.

The people have been evacuated in the Chandipur area of Odisha's Balasore district.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in India has deployed 65 teams for the possible disaster. The rescue and relief teams of the Indian army, navy, and the coast guard have also deployed over the coastal districts of Odisha and West Bengal.

Tropical cyclone Yaas is forecast to make landfall likely near Dhamra port of Odisha Wednesday afternoon
