Ganatantra Diwas, or Republic Day, is a significant national holiday in Nepal, celebrated annually on May 28th. This day marks the historic moment in 2008 when Nepal transitioned from a monarchy to a federal democratic republic. It is a day of immense pride and reflection for the Nepalese people, commemorating their struggle for democracy and the establishment of a republic.

Maha Shivaratri is particularly important in the Shaivism tradition of Hinduism. Unlike most Hindu festivals that are celebrated during the day, Maha Shivaratri is celebrated at night. Furthermore, unlike most Hindu festivals that include expression of cultural revelry, Maha Shivaratri is a solemn event notable for its introspective focus, fasting, meditation on Shiva, self study, social harmony and an all-night vigil at Shiva temples.
