Ghatastapana marks the commencement of the 10 day dashain festival. Ghata or the scared pot filled with holy water is adorned with flowers and placed in a clay pot with sand soil mixture. Seeds of sesame, barley, wheat, and corn are planted. These grains are thought to represent prosperity and to bring prosperity to the worshiping family once they finally grow.
