Update from Far Western Region
The bulk of the HART team from both bases is currently in the far western region of Nepal.
This time, our dog neutering program is being conducted in partnership with Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN), the Nepal partner of the global BirdLife International network. BCN is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of birds and their habitats in Nepal.
This collaboration brings a slightly different but very important dimension to our work.
The program is being carried out across three municipalities and rural municipalities in Kanchanpur district, with the broader objective of supporting vulture conservation in the region. BCN has been actively working to protect vulnerable vulture species, and this initiative complements that effort.
It is a good example of how interconnected our ecosystem truly is. Both dogs and vultures are scavengers. In rural areas where there is strong potential for vulture conservation, an unchecked and growing dog population can disturb this natural balance.
By managing the dog population humanely through sterilisation and vaccination, we aim to reduce this pressure and contribute, in a small but meaningful way, to the protection of vultures.
The target for this project is to neuter 320 dogs. We will continue to share updates as the work progresses.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support this work.
With gratitude,
HART Nepal
