Why 'Old Factory Corner'?

Well, back in 1915 during World War One, the corner site between McShane Road and Appleby Road (now Highway) was home to the original Waimea Co-Operative Dairy Company. The cheese manufacture changed hands a couple of times, but farmers from around the region always referred to it as Old Factory Corner, hence the name.
