Discovering Birkenhead Point Montessori Preschool

For families with 2โ€“5 year olds, choosing an early learning centre that feels welcoming, nurturing, and supports a strong start to education is an important decision. Birkenhead Point Montessori offers a unique combination of warmth, quality learning, and community connection.

Set within a beautifully converted villa, the centre provides a calm, homely environment where children quickly feel at ease. Spacious outdoor areas shaded by mature trees invite exploration, active play, and meaningful connections with nature. Inside, thoughtfully prepared learning spaces, plus a dedicated art room, encourage creativity, curiosity, and self-expression.

At the heart of the centre is a Montessori-inspired approach that nurtures confident, capable, and independent learners. Tamariki are encouraged to follow their interests, make choices, and develop practical life skills within a carefully prepared environment. Through this process, they build concentration, problem-solving skills, self-confidence, and a lasting love of learning.

Located in Birkenhead Point Village, the centre offers added convenience for busy families. Its central community setting makes drop-offs and pick-ups easy, while allowing parents and caregivers to combine daily routines with errands, shopping, or a coffee stop.

Families also value the centreโ€™s hours of 8.00am to 4.30pm, which provide practical support for working parents and caregivers. Knowing their children are spending the day in a safe, engaging, and caring environment brings added peace of mind.

๐ŸŽจ A Space Where Creativity Comes to Life ๐ŸŽจ

Did you know that Birkenhead Point Montessori has a dedicated Art Room? It's one of the unique features that sets our centre apart and gives our tamariki the opportunity to explore, create, imagine, and express themselves every day.

From painting and drawing to crafting and mixed-media projects, our Art Room provides a calm and inspiring environment where children can develop confidence, creativity, and a love of learning through hands-on experiences.

As a Montessori-inspired centre, we believe every child is capable, creative, and full of potential. Our Art Room is just one of the many ways we nurture their curiosity and individuality.
We'd love to welcome local families to see it for themselves at our upcoming Open Day on Saturday 13 June from 11-1pm. Grab a coffee from one of the neighbouring cafes and come meet us, explore our learning environments, and discover what makes Birkenhead Point Montessori such a special place for children to learn and grow.

Since taking over Birkenhead Point Montessori in April, we wanted to take a moment to properly introduce ourselves to our wonderful community ๐Ÿ‘‹

Weโ€™re Andrew and Gemma โ€” proud new owners of BPM and passionate about creating a warm, caring and high-quality environment where children can thrive. As a small boutique centre, we love being able to provide a close-knit, personalised environment where children are genuinely known, supported and nurtured as they grow from the age of 2 through to becoming confident and capable learners ready for primary school.

Andrew is originally from Nelson and Gemma was born and raised in Auckland, where we now live together with our three children โ€” Ben (18), Finn (15) and Olivia (10) โ€” plus our dog Pascalle and cat Smudge ๐Ÿพ

As parents ourselves, we understand how important it is to find a centre where your child feels safe, supported and happy each day.

Before moving into early childhood education, Andrew spent many years working in leadership and people-focused roles in New Zealand and overseas. Together, we now run our centres as a family business with a hands-on approach and a strong focus on supporting both our children and teaching teams.

Since joining the BPM community, weโ€™ve loved getting to know our families and seeing the incredible relationships between our teachers and tamariki. We also want to acknowledge our wonderful teaching team, whose care, dedication and passion are what make BPM such a special place ๐Ÿ’›

Over the past few weeks weโ€™ve been focused on supporting the team, improving the centre environment and strengthening systems behind the scenes, while ensuring BPM continues to hold its special place within the Birkenhead community for many years to come.

If youโ€™re looking for a caring, community-focused early learning centre for your child, we would love to welcome you in for a visit and show you what makes BPM so special.
