Happiest of birthday to my father-in-law Papa Hone (his early birthday present lol). The moko piece represents his 7 mokopuna. It turned out mean - we were happy with how it came out.

If you’re interested in getting moko, hit me up - I’ll be taking bookings.

Ngā mihi

This painting ‘Maihi ki katau’ is a part of the ‘Cubism Whakairo series’ that I’ve been working on from 2020 - 2022. The inspiration of the pūrakau comes from a sacred rākau, known as ‘Tōtara Tapu Ngāhuru Mā Rua’ or otherwise known as ‘The twelve logs.’ It explains the events of how the logs are at their current location and the people that were involved. This painting along with two other pieces are part of a raffle, but the tickets are all sold. Our Kapa Haka rōpū: Te Rerenga Kōtuku are hosting a Gala at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ngāti Kahungunu o Te Wairoa on Saturday 16th December 2023. This event will help us raise funds towards the Ngāti Kahungunu Kapa Haka regional competition at Dannevirke 2024.

Mural Project Toi Onehunga The Creative Process | Māui-matawaru = Māui of the eight charms 25/10/2023

Kia ora whānau. I made a video about one of the concept art ive been working on for an upcoming mural project in Onehunga.

The theme behind this artwork is celebrating Onehunga by exploring the nature of the area and its cultural relevances. I decided to explore themes of Atua (gods) Māori and use pūrakau (ancient story) to determine the creative process by explaining and showing the stories to Māori people. I’ll be covering two of Māui’s stories, when he was protected by supernatural forces and his transformation into a Kereru (wood pigeon). I will also cover pūrakau such as Tāne-mahuta, Mumuhango, and Akerautangi and explain their significance to nature.

There are many versions of Māori stories with different iwi (tribes) having their interpretations. This represents my version of the story according to my research.
