Halberg Regional Advisor Lawrence Wilkinson recently presented at the Physical Education New Zealand (PENZ) Conference at Mount Albert Grammer School, alongside Halberg rangatahi Asher Lewis and Kyren Andrew 🏀💛

During two sessions title Te Hīkoi a Whakatipu - Your Journey, Your Voice, Asher and Kyren shared their school camp experiences, highlighting the importance of listening to rangatahi voices when creating inclusive camp opportunities.

While Kyren reflected on the positive impact of strong family advocacy and supportive teachers, Asher spoke about the lack of camp opportunities throughout his secondary school years. Together, with a written account from Halberg Youth Council member Toby Ireland, their stories demonstrated the lasting impact of inclusive camp experiences and the friendships formed through shared challenges.

To top off the week, Asher was invited to demonstrate Wheelchair Basketball at halftime during the Tall Blacks vs Guam match, representing New Zealand alongside visiting US College players, while Kyren and Lawrence cheered him on from the stands. It was a fitting celebration of leadership, inclusion, and the power of sport ⚽ 🎾 🏈
