ASPI’s Critical Technology Tracker - ASPI 06/07/2026

Who is leading the critical Technology race?

The global technology race is accelerating, and the gap continues to widen.
Research shows that China now leads in 37 of 44 critical and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biotechnology, robotics, advanced materials, energy, defence, and space. This position reflects decades of sustained investment in research, talent, and long-term strategic planning.

For New Zealand, the message is clear. Economic growth, national resilience, and future prosperity will increasingly depend on our ability to invest in science, develop talent, and translate research into successful commercial outcomes.
The countries that lead in innovation today will shape the industries and economies of tomorrow.

Innovation is no longer optional. It is a national competitive advantage.

Pwede kang magsimula bilang:
• Sole Trader (ikaw mismo ang business owner)
• Partnership (dalawa o higit pang owners)
• Limited Company (separate legal entity)

✔️ Keep records of income and expenses

✔️ Check if you need GST registration

✔️ Set aside money for tax

Starting a business doesn't need to be complicated.
