The Open Book Clearance Sale Weekend - April 2026 — The Open Book It’s nearly time for our second clearance sale of the year! From 10am to 5pm Saturday 18 April, and 10am to 3pm Sunday, come and browse ~1,500 clearance books – all $5 each or five for $15. Plus 10,000 other second-hand books on the shelves at their normal reasonable prices.

Behold the humble file box, one of the cornerstones of our secondhand bookstore (the other three being our staff, books, and vibes, of course)

We use file boxes like these for storing books because they’re easy to open, easy to stack, and usually can’t get too heavy to carry by nature of their size.

We use and reuse boxes as many times as repairs and structural integrity will allow - check out all those labels written and crossed out - and this particular box has come to the end of its hard-working bookstore life.

If you have ever enjoyed perusing the blackout poetry wall in our hallway, you’ll love this latest offering we have here at The Open Book!

Back in August we had our annual blackout poetry event for , but this year we gave you a chance to have your creations immortalised in an in-house-made zine!

Well, here they are, for sale at $5 a pop!

In the zine we have bundled together our favourites of the submitted poems, along with a blackout poetry kit in the back so that whoever buys one of our zines can have a go at making their own blackout poetry.
