Every Tread Lightly session ends with a promise ๐ After learning about waste, pollution, climate change and how our everyday choices affect te taiao, students make a personal pledge to take action at home with their whฤnau.
With Plastic Free July now underway, there's no better time to put those pledges into action. Whether it's choosing a reusable drink bottle, saying no to single-use plastic bags, or finding new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle at home, every small action adds up โป๏ธ
What will your pledge be this July?
Share your Plastic Free July goal in the comments and inspire others to tread lightly ๐

A huge thank you to our incredible funders and sponsors who make the Tread Lightly Caravan possible! ๐
Term 2 has been all about empowering tamariki through environmental education๐ฟ๐ From a field trip with students from three schools to the Auckland Botanic Gardens, countless community activations, and our mobile environmental classroom delivering interactive and impactful learning to 2,103 students from 8 schools across Tฤmaki Makaurau, it was a busy but rewarding term!
This success wouldnโt have been possible without the incredible support of our funders and sponsors: Foundation North, Lotto NZ, Auckland Council, Hynds, The Packaging Forum, Purex, Re.group, The Jenkins Foundation, Auckland Airport Community Trust, ANZ New Zealand Staff Foundation, Canon New Zealand, Kings Plant Barn, Essity ๐
Thank you for believing in our mission and helping us grow the next generation of environmental heroes!

This is why we do it ๐
We LOVE delivering our environmental education programme but what we love more is receiving feedback like this. It was such a pleasure to be at Jean Batten School the other week, the kaiako and tamariki approached each of our exhibits with eager hearts and open minds.
Thank you for taking up the challenge to tread lightly, Jean Batten School. Because of your continued mahi, we're collectively making our environment better, one step at a time ๐ฟ๐
Thanks again to the Auckland Airport Community Trust who fully funded this opportunity ๐
We're at Jean Batten School this week delivering our environmental education programme to 350 students from Y0-Y6, all thanks to the Auckland Airport Community Trust who have fully funded this opportunity ๐
Tamariki are doing a lot of learning, from keeping our stormwater drains clean to correctly sorting waste and finding out how long it takes for things to break down in landfill and so much more!
"It was awesome to build my students' awareness on reducing waste" - Year 2 Teacher, Jean Batten School
This learning empowers tamariki and rangatahi with the knowledge and confidence to tread lightly, today and into the future ๐ฟ๐

Big ups to our tamariki in Manurewa ๐
The Tread Lightly team, with support from , has installed LittaTraps at three local schools to help stop rubbish from reaching our awa ๐
These clever devices catch waste before it flows through stormwater drains. From there, we can see whatโs ending up in the system and work alongside schools to find simple ways to stop it at the source.
Ka pai to everyone involved in protecting te taiao ๐
