I used to be called Colour-Barbie at one of the design companies I worked at. Thinking back, that was slightly insulting (is it too late to be offended?) but actually I didn’t mind at the time. I have always known the power of colour and the ability to choose colour that influences how a space feels.

There's a whole field dedicated to this called Colour Psychology. But no need to get a PHD on it, all the info is available with a little keyboard tapping. This, my friends, sums up my entire approach to life…. I can find out what I need to know (and so can you!)

At home colour can be used to create a sanctuary, a welcoming haven. Soothing, dreamy colours or vibrant energetic colours? The choice is yours, it’s your home 💚

There’s a section dedicated to colour in the Seasonal Guide to help you create a calming, nurturing space with colour. The guide is available for 3 more days via this link: https://oiltribe.co.nz/seasonal-guides/

It doesn’t matter how the day ends, there is always a fresh start tomorrow.

This Is so encouraging to me and something I lean on in my daily life. It doesn’t matter how chaotic the house was at the end of the day, I can start fresh in the morning.

If the chaos was emotional it can be hard to bounce out of bed the next day, particularly if you didn’t sleep well.

This is where embedded morning practices are absolute life savers. Practices that you do every morning to prepare your house for the day. Habits you don’t really have to think about that recharge your energy and lift the mood.

The mornings are about expansion and welcoming the new day. Gathering energy and lifting the spirits of everyone in the home 🔥

Mine are really simple.
:: Exercise first (for my own sanity)
:: Open the door or windows no matter how cold it is, even for 5 minutes to clear the air.
:: Tidy the kitchen bench if it wasn’t done the night before so I have a clean start.
:: Put music on.
:: Get the diffuser going in the kitchen with a happy uplifting oil blend
:: Then I start the breakfast and school lunches.

This simple habit of a series of easy tasks resets the whole house. It’s MUCH harder to be grumpy when the space smells good, sounds good and looks good (uncluttered).

I am sharing morning expansion and evening contraction practices around the emotional state of nourishment in the Seasonal Guide I am launching next week,

This guide encapsulates how to create nourishment in your home through colour, design, essential oils, practices, food, crystals and more.

My Dad taught me to look at things from all angles.

This would drive me crazy as a child as I always wanted him to take MY side in any argument. But he wouldn't and would look at the issue from all sides.

This was such a valuable lesson in critical thinking. It taught me that we don’t have to accept the way things are or what we are told. If we look at things from different angles we often come up with alternative views or new ways of doing things.

Take your home for example. You don't have to accept that the way it feels is unchangeable. You do not have to have a certain personality to have a specific emotional state in your home. And you don’t have to be a designer or stylist to make your home beautiful.

It’s about looking at it from different perspectives and finding solutions.

I am a passionate, deeply sensitive and excitable soul. None of this should add up to having a calm home. But my home IS peaceful. It may be loud and chaotic at times but it always returns to the baseline of peace.

I decide how my home feels. If I want to feel uplifting because everyone is a bit flat I change things and help to create that emotional state. If things feel chaotic and stressed, I do the same, change things up until it feels nourishing.

The more I go in life the more I realise that power lies in the home 🔥 And WE decide how our own space feels.

If you are keen to know how to do this I am creating a seasonal guide around the emotion Nourish, to launch early April. This guide encapsulates how to create nourishment in your home through colour, design, essential oils, rituals, food, books and more. There will be an e-book and a video plus the option of my pinterest board and other resources. The mornings are cooler now which is such a relief. I have absolutely loved this Summer in fact it’s been one of my favourites ever. But I am more than ready for the cooler weather as it’s been hot and humid summer!

Instead of heading outside with my coffee in the morning I am finding myself at the dining room table with a blanket over my knees looking out at the cat playing in the garden. I am naturally starting the process of being indoors more as the season changes and cools.

The cooler mornings signal the start of the contraction seasons of Autumn and Winter. The times of year when we draw inwards to spend more time within our houses. We cosy up and cuddle into our homes.

Autumn and Winter are times to nourish ourselves. To rest and restore. There is so much to look forward to in this coming season with warm colours, woody oils and snuggly blankets.

Are you a lover of cooler months? Or are you a die hard summer babe? I reckon we can be both 😉
