Our Story
The red brick building with all its grandeur originates from 1904. It was purpose-built by two nurses, Mrs Church and Mrs Sutherland, as the private Chalet Hospital. In 1991 it was converted to the Chalet Backpackers and can accommodate up to 50 guests in single, double or twin rooms, family rooms, 3 or 4 bed share rooms and dorms. All beds are fully made up. Unlimited WiFi, along with tea and coffee, and a pool table and a piano are provided for your enjoyment. There is a large kitchen and we recycle glass, plastic, cardboard, newspaper, and cans. You can relax in our sunny courtyard. All this within a short walk to the city centre.
