My Story

Serving as a Gisborne District Youth Councillor since 2016 and a full time student, finishing last year, I have been privileged enough to be at the heart of youth in the Tairawhiti Region for most of my life here in Gisborne.

We are blessed in Tairawhiti to have a large and strong group of Rangatahi, young leaders, but how do we make sure that the future we are creating in our district, is fit for them and is what they want to see. This, the motivation for my campaign.

When I look back at my journey in Gisborne, I feel so lucky to have grown up in a place where community involvement in encouraged, from the age of six I have been volunteering. 13 years on and volunteers still sit at the heart of our community along with youth. Through my years of community engagement, I have worked with many non-profit organisations nationally and locally and it inspires me the passion organisers and volunteers have to make Tairawhiti and New Zealand a better place.

Through my work volunteering in Tairawhiti In 2014, I received my first of three Gisborne Volunteer Centre Youth Awards and at 16 was nominated for a New Zealand Youth Award, Giving Back award. I received a KiwiBank Local Hero Medal in 2017 and was nominated for the University of Auckland Young New Zealander of the Year. 2018 was shortlisted for the GirlBoss awards and 2019 Shortlisted for Tumeke Enterprises Youth Awards, Yet to be announced.
