As a contractor, you're moving from property to property every single day. That makes you a critical link in New Zealand's biosecurity chain, whether you think of yourself that way or not. Mud, seeds, plant material, and insects all hitch a ride on tyres, boots, decks, and wheels without anyone noticing.

And the stakes are real. Velvetleaf, classified as an unwanted organism by MPI, can slash crop yields by up to 70% and is spread directly by contaminated machinery. Brown marmorated stink bug feeds on more than 300 host plants and is very good at catching a ride. These aren't theoretical problems. They're the kind of thing that changes how a farmer manages their land for years.

Here's the thing: when you roll onto a property with the last job still hanging off your machine, your client isn't thinking ""hard-working."" They're thinking, ""What else is he bringing with him?"" Your professionalism is on show before you even step out of the cab.

Beyond the wash-down, you also need to be able to prove where your machines have been. If a biosecurity event ever lands close to home, ""I think we were on the Smith place Tuesday"" won't cut it. You need locked, timestamped records of which machine, which property, which operator, what time in and out, and where it went next.
