Could you leave your business to run on it's own?
If no, what's stopping it from being able to run without you?
If yes, how did you get your business to that point? (And how long could you leave it?)
(We've got something coming...)
27 trips back to site!!
Mark felt a sick feeling in his stomach as he read the job report.
His hands started sweat.
And he nervously shifted in his chair.
He’d been plumbing for this client over the last 6 years…
…but only now did he realize how much money he was losing.
Sure, he had a hunch based on his bank account.
But seeing it laid out like this really hit home.
You might be wondering what report Mark was looking at?
Well, Mark decided to back cost his jobs for the first time.
And it’s fair to say the results weren’t what he expected.
He thought it would say he was doing okay.
Instead, he was now faced with a hard truth...
Now before I put you off back costing…
There’s a happy ending to this story.
Since this moment, Mark has transformed his business.
He’s put processes in place.
Adjusted his pricing structure.
And trained his team.
He’s gone from losing money hand over first.
To now being incredibly profitable.
But all of this wouldn’t have happened if Mark didn’t take the step to back cost his jobs.
It showed him what areas of his business needed improve.
(One being, too many trips to site)
So he could fix them and plug the profit leak.
So, my question to you is this…
Are you back costing your jobs?
And more importantly, are you doing it consistently?
If you’re not, take this as a sign to start.
It takes some guts to do.
And can be hard to prioritize if you’re already busy.
But the key is to start.
The first step is to set aside a dedicated time slot each week to track the profitability of your jobs.
You can use your job management system.
Or you can grab my back costing template.
(Just comment below if you want a free copy).
I promise back costing the best thing you can do for your business.
You’ll thank yourself later.
Just like Mark did.
Let me know in the comments if you’re tracking your job profitability or not.
