Workwise attended the Platform Trust Members' Day yesterday in Wellington, connecting with colleagues and organisations from across the mental health and addiction sector, getting motivated, sharing ideas and taking learnings back to our home organisations.

We enjoyed hearing from guest speakers about how to approach the year ahead for service delivery and relationships, finding opportunities, putting forward solutions, and doing the best we can with technology - without forgetting the important human connection behind everything we do.

Workwise has welcomed James Scarlett as our new General Manager to oversee the Auckland and Waikato teams, and to join our senior leadership team.

James has joined us from Pathways, so he may be a familiar face to many across the mental health space and clinical services in Auckland.

With over a decade’s experience in mental health, addiction services and youth development, James describes himself as a registered addictions clinician but a youth worker at heart.

“I look forward to connecting with people and employers in my new capacity – and seeing how we can journey with tāngata whai ora to find purpose, dignity and opportunities,” says James.

Wow, 20 years! This month, the Workwise Taranaki team celebrates 20 years of supporting people with their employment journeys.

We recently gathered together at Taranaki Base Hospital to recognise our meaningful partnership with Health NZ - Taranaki community mental health and addiction teams, paying tribute to the many people - including past and present leaders and staff, peer support and people with lived experience - employers, and other community and support services.

“At the heart of this celebration are the people who’ve used our services. Their courage, commitment and success are what we honour today. Without them, this work would have no meaning,” said Tyron Pini, Workwise Chief Executive.

We also took a moment to acknowledge Ross Ekdahl, Manager of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Taranaki for his efforts and leadership over many years (see photo).

It was a highlight to hear Ross talking from the heart about the reality of the work to get here - and the value he sees in having employment consultants from Workwise as part of the community mental health team and service.

Connecting and reflecting together gives us the motivation and shared sense of purpose to drive us forward – so, here’s to the next 20 years!
