Havelock North Intermediate

In the school holidays our First Lego League team travelled to Sydney to compete in the Asia Pacific Open Championship for First Lego League. It was at Macquarie University, where we met people from over 25 countries all over the world, and it was an amazing experience.

We loved doing the robot game and innovation project but our highlight was definitely the alliance challenge, where we were partnered with an amazing Chilean team, Cybercore, and we made it all the way to the playoffs. It was very competitive, as our alliance tied with the 2nd place alliance at 400 points, and we did a 2nd game to see who would get the spot in the finals. Alongside the competition we did scavenger hunts around the university with our alliance team, an interactive physics demonstration by Fizzics Education. Finally we had a hands-on tour of Macquarie University, learning about biodiversity, which is the theme for the upcoming First Lego League season.

Another Hawkes Bay team with members from HNI, Leo and Daniel. The team was awarded the "Rising All-Stars" trophy. This award recognises a team that judges believe has great potential for the future. It celebrates teams that demonstrate strong potential, exceptional growth, and significant progress in their confidence and capabilities across all core areas of the competition.

Best wishes to Akitha, Lucas, Austin, Daniel, and Leo, who are travelling to Australia during the upcoming school holidays. They will be competing at the First Lego League Asia-Pacific Open Championship (APOC) event. We wish them all the best of luck for the competition.
