As the stars of Matariki rose above the winter sky, residents from across all our communities and Day Club members gathered at Howick Views Day Club for our own HBH Matariki Ball. We celebrated the beauty of the Māori New Year with music, laughter, and dancing, as residents and our Senior Management Team shared the dance floor, honouring the past while embracing the hope and promise of new beginnings. ✨
Matariki reminds us that every generation carries a story worth celebrating. Alongside treasured memories, new friendships, and plenty of smiles, everyone also enjoyed a special musical performance by one of our nurses, Elli, whose beautiful voice brought an extra touch of warmth and joy to the celebration. 🎤
This special celebration beautifully reflected our Eden Principle #2: Creating a caring, inclusive, and vibrant community where everyone, regardless of age or ability, experiences connection, belonging, and well-being. 💚🥰

Life is always a little sweeter when it's shared. 🍫💚
As we celebrated World Chocolate Day, our Day Programme members came together to create a delightful chocolate surprise for everyone at Day Club today. Filled with laughter, conversation, teamwork, and the irresistible aroma of chocolate, the activity was a wonderful reminder that life's sweetest moments aren't just found in chocolate, but in the joy of giving and the happiness we create for others.
A heartfelt thank you to Heather for leading this wonderful activity with such warmth and enthusiasm. Her guidance and encouragement ensured that every member felt included, supported, and proud to be part of creating something special.
Always remember, sharing chocolate is sweet, but sharing kindness makes the day even sweeter! 🥰

What better way to end the week than with a little Disco Fever? Our residents across all our communities and our Day Club members each enjoyed their own fun-filled disco celebrations, where classic hits, colourful energy, and plenty of dancing brought smiles to every face. 🕺💃
From timeless disco classics to irresistible dance-floor favourites, our wonderful Lifestyle Team and Day Club staff transformed Howick Views into a lively celebration filled with music, laughter, and unforgettable moments. 🪩
True to our Eden Principle #5: Fostering Spontaneity. We always made sure to cultivate an environment full of variety and enjoyable moments for our residents. 💚

Not long ago, our residents at Gulf Views had the pleasure of welcoming students from Bucklands Beach Intermediate for a wonderful day of creativity, conversation, and connection. Together, they enjoyed creating artworks, playing games, and sharing stories across generations.
One of the most meaningful moments was seeing the students take a genuine interest in our residents' daily lives, listening with curiosity as experiences, memories, and laughter were shared.
This special visit was a beautiful reflection of our Eden Principle #6: Creating meaningful, purpose-driven experiences that bring joy, foster connection, and enrich the lives of our elders. It was a wonderful reminder that when generations come together, they don't just share activities, they share kindness, understanding, and memories that can last a lifetime. 💚

On 11th of June, HBH held a special pōwhiri to welcome our visitors from the Eden Alternative and our new staff members into our community.
The ceremony began with a beautiful karanga led by Pamela Miki, a student from Howick Intermediate and part of their Kapa Haka group, followed by karakia led by Matua Hemi.
We also heard from Charles Miller, HBH Board Chair, who spoke on behalf of HBH, and Lewis Hollows, Maintenance Team Lead and one of our new staff members, who spoke on behalf of the manuhiri.
The pōwhiri continued with waiata led by the HBH Cultural Team, followed by hongi and harirū, symbolising welcome, respect and the start of new relationships.
Thank you to everyone who helped organise the day, attended the ceremony, prepared and shared kai, and supported this meaningful occasion.
Nau mai, haere mai to our new staff and visitors! 💚
