Lovely Sunday for a trip to Rangituhi / Colonial K**b in Porirua. Up the 700+ steps to local views and across the waters to the South Island.

Thank you to Jonathan Ravens and Anthony Davies from Friends of Belmont Regional Park who came to speak to club members tonight.

They updated us about the proposal for a land swap so the quarry near Dry Creek can expand into the park. This project has been listed under the Fast-track Approvals Act.

If this goes ahead, we’d lose precious regenerating forest, including rare and beautiful swamp maire and ramarama trees.

We’re so fortunate to have Belmont Regional Park in our backyard to walk, run and cycle in. It’s also wonderful to see the forest and birdlife returning.

The snow is looking great and the HVTC Ruapehu Lodge is open for bookings this winter.
