Well Homes and Tihei Rangatahi were invited to present to Resident Medical Officers (junior doctors) working across hospitals and GP practices in our region, including Capital Coast, Hutt Valley and Kenepuru.

The presentations were held at Kokiri Marae, grounding the learning in community and connection.

This opportunity was led by their kaiako, Dr Jake Aitken, who is integrating cultural training across the health system to strengthen the way doctors care for our communities.

We shared the kaupapa of our services and the realities we see every day, supporting whānau in their homes and communities.

Often, clinicians see patients in hospital or in clinic, but don’t always see the conditions many whānau are living in. The home environment plays a significant role in health outcomes.

This highlighted the need to look beyond the illness and understand what whānau are returning home to, encouraging early referral into Well Homes while connecting our youth with support through Tihei Rangatahi.

The environments our whānau live in matter, and conversations like these help strengthen the way care is delivered across our communities!
