A spinal injury can result whenever a significant blow or force is applied to the spine or head.

Consider these steps if you are attending to a co-worker who's showing signs of a spinal/neck injury:
• Treat all unconscious accident victims as potential spinal injury patients, and handle them gently and carefully
• Keep head, neck and spine in a straight line as much as possible
• Semi-rigid cervical collars are not recommended in first aid

Based on the nature of the business, as an Owner/Manager, you can conduct a risk assessment to decide if a first aid room is required on your business property.

When choosing to build one, don't forget to consider these 3 things:
– The distance between different work areas
– How long it would take emergency services to reach your workplace
– If you have remote or isolated workers.

An injury assessment is a way to identify & assess the care required for the patient.

Only perform an assessment when medical assistance is NOT on the way, and it is performed only to establish whether you NEED to get medical assistance.

Conducting a thorough Head to Toes check can help you arrive at a better conclusion about the severity of the injury. The areas include:

- Eyes
- Nose
- Ears
