New Zealand has officially passed the solar tipping point.

Researchers say most Kiwi households buying solar today will save more than they spend - and that now includes battery storage too. Around $1,000 a year net, on current figures.

From 20,000 solar customers around New Zealand in 2018 to nearly 84,000 today. The momentum is real - and it stacks up financially everywhere from Nelson to Dunedin.

Power prices in New Zealand rose 12% in 2025. Another 5% rise is forecast for 2026. And lines charges are locked in to keep climbing every year until 2029.
