Getting a true down position means your dog should be rolling their hips to either side and fully committing to being in a more relaxed state. This is a great indication on how relaxed your dog is.

Look at these appeasement behaviours and this polite invitation to interact.

Watch how the brown Lab makes herself smaller, slows her movements, (I have sped up the middle of the video), she keeps herslef in a curved path, and offers a soft, loose tail wag. These are all appeasement signals designed to communicate, "I'm friendly. I'd like to meet you."

Rather than demanding interaction, she's giving the white lab the space and time to make a choice, done with the right amount of pressure.

The best social dogs communicate first, read each other's body language, and adjust their behaviour accordingly.

The invitation was accepted and the two interacted beautifully. Sometimes dogs simply need a little time to have their conversation before deciding they're comfortable engaging.

Such an interesting piece of communication I thought I'd share with you all.

Does this look OK to you? If it does you could be reinforcing bad behaviour by letting your or other dogs gaurd you. As you can see this dog comes in and intentionally put herself between me and the other dog. Your dog can try and gaurd anything it finds valuable. Watch the signs and address it. Prevention is way better than the cure.

We’ve been working with a young Doberman, and I just got this fantastic update! He did so well at the kennels! I’m really proud of the progress, and it’s been so rewarding seeing his confidence grow. We couldn’t have done it without the consistency and care from his owner. This is just the beginning. I’m excited to see how far he’ll go as we keep building on this foundation.
