𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚: 𝐓𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐯𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐡𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐚 𝐀𝐫𝐭 + 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐦 (𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧) | 𝟐𝟎 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 - 𝟏𝟔 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

“Marama” means woman, “Malama” means light, “Malamalama” speaks to insight, wisdom and understanding. At the heart of it all is manavā, breath, heart and sacred relational space honouring Pacific women as life-givers, knowledge holders and anchors of community.

This Matariki season, under the guiding star Pōhutukawa, keeper of remembrance, Marama Malama: Te Manavā Moana Women honours the women who have shaped our communities through leadership, service, love and collective care.

Founded in 1976–1977 by Pacific women, P.A.C.I.F.I.C.A. Inc. has long nurtured advocacy, cultural wellbeing and leadership across generations.

Through the powerful portraits of artist Nu’ugalo Jacinta Mauga, this exhibition uplifts Pacific women from across the Moana, whose legacies continue to shape Porirua for generations to come.

A selection of portraits will also feature in Porirua’s Te Manawā lightboxes from 27 June 2026 to 27 June 2027.
