North Carolina has my heart. I’m so excited to be speaking at the NC Local News Summit on Friday, March 27 with these amazing humans.

Public libraries, theaters, and arts institutions are essential to civic life. Yet they are facing growing threats from budget cuts, censorship, and consolidation.

At SXSW, I’ll be joining a conversation with partners from the Future Film Coalition, American Library Association, and Americans for the Arts about how we defend and strengthen public cultural infrastructure.

These institutions are not just places to experience art or access information. They are spaces where communities gather, learn, and participate in civic life. When they are weakened, our information ecosystem and democratic culture are weakened too.

Our panel will share practical strategies for artists, filmmakers, advocates, and community leaders. We will talk about local advocacy, national coalition building, and ways to protect access, uphold free expression, and support a more equitable media ecosystem.
