The shift to general community quarantine (GCQ) has been postponed in five of six Central Luzon provinces and Angeles City which used to be under enchanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Of the six provinces and two highly urbanized cities initially under the ECQ, only Tarlac and Olongapo City are slated to shift to GCQ starting this May 16.

Angeles City and the provinces of Pampanga, Bulacan, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, and Zambales will instead be placed under modified enchanced community quarantine (MECQ) from May 16 to May 31.

This, after the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force on Covid 19 (RIATF) recommended the measure to its national office, noting that local officials in the provinces and city had sought the delay in the implementation of GCQ.

The recommendation was signed by the Central Luzon directors of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Health (DOH) who cited “high number of COVID-19 test pending, low percentage of tested cases, and necessity of preparation and transition from ECQ to GCQ.”

The RIATF noted a previous agreement recognizing that “the local chief executives are in better positions to assess the local situation in their respective areas of responsibility with regard to their LGU’s capabilities and threat status.” | via Ding Cervantes

President Duterte has approved the extension of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the following “high risk” areas until May 15, 2020.

However, the imposition of ECQ in Benguet, Pangasinan, Tarlac and Zambales may change by April 30, 2020, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
