Join us in celebrating the Safer Internet Day (SID) for Children Philippines this coming 10 February 2026!

The SID is a global event celebrated annually to promote safer and more responsible internet use for everyone, with a special focus on over 100 countries, raising awareness about online safety issues. In the Philippines, the SID is officially recognized through Proclamation No. 417, declaring every second Tuesday of February as Safer Internet Day for Filipino Children.

This yearโ€™s theme,โ€œAko, Ikaw, Tayo: Konektado at Protektado Laban sa OSAEC at CSAEMโ€, emphasizes the importance of a whole-of-nation approach in creating a safer digital space for children.

Letโ€™s come together to promote online safety by encouraging responsible internet use and addressing the challenges and opportunities of the digital world for Filipino children. At the heart of this celebration are the voices of the youth, who play a crucial role in creating a safer, more secure digital environment for all. Their call to action aims to inspire bayanihan among government actors, civil society organizations, and the private sector.

Together, we can make the internet a safer space for everyone!

The fight against Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) just grew stronger with the successful completion of the Training for Deputized AMLC Investigators.

Led by PBGEN MARIA SHEILA T PORTENTO, Chief, WCPC, in close coordination with the Anti-Money Laundering Council headed by Executive Director Matthew M. David, the training reinforced the critical link between tactical operations and financial justice.

This initiative marks a clear shift in strategy: we do not stop at arrest; we follow the money. Through enhanced expertise in bank inquiry orders, asset tracing, and cryptocurrency monitoring, we ensure that those who profit from exploitation are deprived of every centavo gained from abuse.

Eleven children have been removed from harm in the Philippines, and three alleged child abuse facilitators have been arrested by the Philippine National Police, following a joint investigation sparked by Australian Federal Police intelligence.

Investigations began in September, 2025, when Australian Border Force searched a Wangaratta man, 43, on his arrival at Melbourne Airport. He was allegedly found to be in possession of child abuse material with authorities locating information relating to a suspected child abuse syndicate.

The Victorian Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team executed a warrant at a property, seized electronic devices and printed images depicting child abuse material, and charged the man.

It is alleged a forensic search of the devices identified online chats with persons located in the Philippines facilitating the live stream abuse of children. It is alleged the man paid to view the abuse online in real time.

Acting on this intelligence, the PNP executed search warrants at three properties in Mati City, yesterday and removed 11 children from harm. Two women, and one man were arrested.

The cooperation between AFP and PNP was critical to this outcome and bringing offenders to justice. The AFP is committed to the safety and protection of children โ€“ no matter where they are in the world. 10/12/2025

A U.S. federal court in Aubrey, Texas has sentenced John Prentice Robertson, 65, to 30 years in federal prison for child exploitation violations committed in the Philippines.

This major conviction was made possible through the close coordination between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the PNP Women and Children Protection Centerโ€“Mindanao Field Unit (WCPC-MFU), whose proactive referral and investigative findings were instrumental in building the case against Robertson.

Investigators revealed that Robertson communicated with adult women in the Philippines through a social media application, paying them to produce images and videos of children engaged in explicit conduct. These materials were transmitted to him either through the platform or via live-streaming. Robertson admitted sending more than $8,000 to individuals in the Philippines from 2015 to 2021 through a single money-remitting service.

The case emanated from a proactive OSAEC investigation conducted by the WCPC-MFU. On September 27, 2023, operatives implemented a Warrant to Search, Seize, and Examine Computer Data (WSSECD) in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental. The operation resulted in the recovery of critical evidence from the mobile phones of the local suspectsโ€”including Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Materials (CSAEM)โ€”which directly linked them to Robertson. The enforcement action also led to the arrest of two local suspects and the rescue of two minor victims of Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC).

The case underscores the reality that OSAEC is a transnational crime: consumers, facilitators, and exploiters may operate across different jurisdictions, requiring strong partnerships between law enforcement agencies worldwide. The timely exchange of intelligence, evidence referrals, and joint investigative efforts ensured that both the foreign offender and the local facilitators were held accountable.

PNP WCPC Acting Chief PBGEN MARIA SHEILA T. PORTENTO emphasized the significance of this shared achievement. โ€œThis successful conviction demonstrates the power of sustained coordination with our global partners. Such collaboration is vital in safeguarding vulnerable individuals and ensuring that perpetratorsโ€”whether local or foreignโ€”are held accountable,โ€ she said. She reaffirmed that the WCPC remains fully committed to eradicating OSAEC and all forms of child trafficking.

Denton County man sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for child exploitation violations An Aubrey man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for child exploitation violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Brigadier General Sheila Portento from the Philippine National Police works closely with the AFP to tackle online child sexual exploitation in the Philippines.

Itโ€™s an issue where education for prevention is a big priority. And itโ€™s been given an innovative boost by the AFP-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) through the publication of a Tagalog-language picture book called Cyber Smart Kids are Cyber Safe.

Designed for ages five through eight, the book is a translation of the ACCCEโ€™s cyber safety themed book Jack Changes the Game, which gives age-appropriate advice about online grooming and how parents can take action if something goes wrong.

With distribution planned across more than 57,000 Philippine primary schools, Brigadier General Portento visited Manila students with AFP Manila Liaison Officer Leesa Alexander to hand out early copies. 21/11/2025
