The world’s largest humanitarian crisis right now is in Sudan.
Since 2023, the people in Sudan have been embroiled in a civil war of alarming brutality. Around 30.4 million people, a population comparable to CALABARZON and the National Capital Region combined, are in need of assistance.
The Sudanese wake up each day afraid of bombings. Parents are terrified of the mass conscription, r**e, and genocide. Both sides in the war–the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)--target hospitals, recruit child soldiers, and conduct r**e and sexual slavery over millions of women, be it children or adults.
But it's the hunger that’s truly everywhere: 21.2 million Sudanese without regular access to food, with 2 million children below 5 years old malnourished.
The Red Cross and United Nations both call Sudan home to the largest underreported tragedy currently happening.
Halfway across the world, we can make a difference.

More on the Sudanese Crisis
Why The War Started
On 15 April 2023, war erupted in a power struggle between Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF), over integration and command of forces. The conflict is rooted in long-standing issues: failed security sector reforms, lack of accountability, and deep political divide.
Widespread Atrocities & Targeting of Civilians
Both SAF and RSF responsible for serious war-crimes: indiscriminate bombings, extrajudicial killings, mass abductions, widespread sexual violence, and looting of aid and resources.
Civilian areas including homes, marketplaces, hospitals, and displacement camps — have been repeatedly attacked.
Ethnic cleansing is reported, especially in regions like Darfur, non-Arab communities targeted, entire villages destroyed, mass graves found.
Human Impact: A Nation in Crisis
Mass Displacement
Nearly 13 million people uprooted, internally displaced or forced to flee abroad.
Children & families among hardest hit
Huge numbers of children displaced, orphaned, or separated from families.
Many lack access to food, clean water, shelter, medical care or education.
Healthcare collapse
80% of hospitals in conflict zones are non-functional.
Medical infrastructure destroyed, personnel killed or displaced and many civilians die or suffer from lack of care.
Famine & Disease
Widespread food insecurity.
Many children under five suffer from malnutrition; outbreaks of disease like cholera, measles, worsened by collapsed sanitation and healthcare systems.
Psychological trauma & human rights abuses
Arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, torture, and rampant sexual violence with many survivors lacking support or justice.
The World’s Silent Crisis: Why It’s “Forgotten”
The war has become what ISHR calls “The Forgotten Tragedy” despite catastrophic human suffering, the global public and media attention remain limited.
Humanitarian aid and international response remain insufficient, many needs unmet and millions remain at risk.
