In celebration of the IMO International Day for Women in Maritime, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has taken a bold step toward fostering inclusivity in the maritime industry by hosting its first-ever online event for female seafarers. This initiative is a testament to MOL’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, recognizing the invaluable contributions of women in maritime and striving to create a more supportive work environment.

𝐀 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐝
The event brought together 70 participants, including Captain Naomi Matsush*ta, Japan’s first female captain in an intermodal ocean shipping group, alongside 31 women crewmembers and cadets. Through engaging talk sessions, these trailblazers shared their experiences, challenges, and aspirations, shedding light on the realities of life at sea as a woman.

MOL is actively working to improve the onboard experience for female seafarers by implementing pre-boarding briefings, mental health care programs, and the provision of sanitary products. The company has also introduced Welfare Officers to ensure that women at sea feel supported and empowered in their roles.
