Bagama’t nasa labas pa ito ng ating agarang nasasakupan, mahigpit naming hinihikayat ang lahat ng Basaynon na manatiling alerto, handa, at may sapat na kaalaman. Maaaring mabilis magbago ang lagay ng panahon kaya mahalaga ang maagap na paghahanda.

With the support of Mayor Luz Chu-Ponferrada, the MDRRMO of MLGU Basey led by Engr. Rowena Olfato joined the Coastal Clean-Up Drive spearheaded by the 63rd Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army in celebration of National Women’s Month on March 14, 2026 at Brgy. Bacubac, Basey, Samar. The activity gathered participating agencies in a shared effort to protect the coastal environment and promote community cooperation.

Through this initiative, the agencies reaffirmed their commitment to environmental stewardship while recognizing the vital role of women in nation-building. Together, the community continues to move forward in unity toward a cleaner, safer, and more resilient Basey. 🌊♻️🤝

𝐌𝐋𝐆𝐔 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐲 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐮𝐬 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥

The Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Basey took part in the 1st Quarter 2026 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill held on March 12, 2026, at Amandayehan Elementary School, demonstrating the municipality’s continued commitment to disaster preparedness and the safety of its community.

The activity was supported by Mayor Luz Chu-Ponferrada with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) headed by Engr. Rowena A. Olfato. It was also made possible through the cooperation of the Amandayehan Elementary School administration, its teaching and non-teaching personnel, Barangay Amandayehan Council, and evaluators—Philippine Coast Guard - Basey Sub-Station,Bureau of Fire Protection Basey Station, Special Action Force, Basey Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, 63rd Infantry Battalion, and Philippine National Police - Basey Station.

During the exercise, participants practiced the basic earthquake safety protocol, “Duck, Cover, and Hold,” followed by a safe and orderly evacuation to a designated assembly area. The drill allowed participants to become familiar with the proper actions and safety measures to take during a strong earthquake.

The activity emphasized the importance of preparedness in minimizing risks and safeguarding lives during disasters. It also strengthened awareness and readiness among government personnel, students, and members of the local community.

The Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill is led by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to encourage government agencies, institutions, and communities throughout the country to enhance their disaster response capacity and readiness for potential seismic events.
