Meaning:

Paul's epistle to the Corinthians generated grief because of their immorality, but it also brought joy since it led to repentance and, eventually, redemption. He highlighted that "Godly sorrow" causes repentance, a turning away from the wicked road that leads to redemption without regret. Paul's emphasis was not on everlasting destiny, but rather on deliverance from the painful consequences of sin. Godly sadness is terrible, but it releases believers from regret and restores them to the road of life, as opposed to worldly sorrow, which leads to death and ruin. Christians should exult in the pain that restores them to life.
