When people look at me with my contagious smile and happy go lucky attitude, they assume so much about me:
That I’ve always been blessed with positivity, happiness and things must have gone my way a lot..
And they couldn’t be more wrong.
Most of my life, it’s been exactly the opposite-
I’ve had to fight, scrap and battle for anything and everything I got.
I wasn’t given anything by anyone- including a chance that I’d make it to where I am today.
No one knows the dark days, hard times and rock bottom that nearly took everything from me..
And they don’t have to.
Every time that I look in the mirror after something great happens to me- I think back to that beaten down and bedraggled woman that I once was..
And I smile.
Because I’m thankful for every blessing and good thing that comes my way.
I’ll never forget where I came from, but I’ll never dwell on my mistakes and failures along the way.
So when they look at me and marvel at my determined spirit, unstoppable strength and positive attitude…
It’s because that’s what I want them to see.
They’ll never know the price I paid to become the person I am today.
I know, though, and that’s enough.
And if I could go back..I wouldn’t change a thing about everything that I went through.
I forged my strength in the fires of failure, my bravery in the setbacks that dragged me down…and I’ve slowly and steadily fought to be the best version of myself that I could be..
And no one can ever take that away from me.
I know I’m not perfect and there’ll still be hard days, and that’s okay-
I never set out to be flawless and I know I can handle anything that comes my way.
Maybe I’m a bit of a mess sometimes and I may have days when I’m inside out and upside down, but I call that part of my charm.
Because rain or shine, win or lose..you’ll see me doing the same thing I always do through it all:
Smiling happily, because I know one thing above all else:
I got this..and I always will.
I was born to be amazing..just the way that I am.
