TANABATA FESTIVAL IS TODAY!
July 7, 2025.
Tanabata, Japan’s Star Festival, celebrates the once-a-year meeting of celestial lovers おりひめOrihime and ひこぼし Hikoboshi—symbolizing hope, love, and the power of wishes.
Similarly, Boholanos have this in Sandugo Festival, which commemorates the historic blood compact between Datu Sikatuna and Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi.
Both traditions honor unity and meaningful connections: Tanabata through written wishes on たんざくtanzaku, and Sandugo through symbolic acts of peace and friendship.
In Bohol, Tanabata-inspired events often blend with local customs, reflecting a shared cultural value of harmony and heartfelt celebration.
