Did You Know? The Romans Used Solar Energy Nearly 2,000 Years Ago!

When we think of solar energy, we usually imagine modern solar panels. But the ancient Romans were already using the Sun to help heat their buildings.

In famous bath complexes like the Baths of Caracalla, architects designed large south-facing windows to let in as much sunlight as possible. The sunlight warmed the rooms naturally, while glass windows helped trap the heat inside.

The Romans also built thick walls and floors that absorbed heat during the day and slowly released it at night, helping keep the baths warm even after sunset.

This wasn't solar electricity like we use today. it was a clever form of passive solar heating. By understanding the movement of the Sun, the Romans reduced the amount of fuel needed to heat their buildings.

So while they didn't have solar panels, they were among the first people to harness the power of the Sun through smart design.

Sometimes the best ideas aren't new. they're ancient.
