Watchfulness: A Christian Duty

Every believer is commanded to live spiritually alert and ready for the return of Christ.

Mateo 24:42 RCPV
[42] Busa pagbantay kamo kay wala kamo masayod kon unsang adlawa moanhi ang inyong Ginoo.

Introduction:
Many Christians are awake physically but asleep spiritually. Jesus warned His disciples to “watch” because danger, deception, and His sudden return make watchfulness a serious duty.
Daghang Kristohanon ang mata sa lawas apan natulog sa espiritu. Gipahimangnoan ni Jesus ang Iyang mga tinun-an nga “magbantay” tungod kay ang peligro, limbong, ug ang kalit nga pagbalik Niya naghimo sa pagbantay nga usa ka seryosong katungdanan.

Proposition:
Every true believer must live in spiritual watchfulness while waiting for Christ’s return.
Ang matag tinuod nga magtutuo kinahanglan magpuyo sa espirituhanong pagbantay samtang naghulat sa pagbalik ni Cristo.

Interrogation:
Why is watchfulness a duty for every Christian, and how should we practice it?
Nganong ang pagbantay usa ka katungdanan sa matag Kristohanon, ug giunsa nato kini pagbuhaton?

Transcendence:
Watchfulness protects the believer from sin, deception, and spiritual failure while preparing him for Christ’s coming.
Ang pagbantay nagpanalipod sa magtutuo batok sa sala, limbong, ug kapakyasan sa espiritu samtang nag-andam kaniya alang sa pag-abot ni Cristo.

I. We Must Watch Our Spiritual Condition

>Guard the heart

>Be humble and repentant

II. We Must Watch Against the Enemy

>Satan is active
>Temptation is real
>Put on the armor of God

III. We Must Watch for the Lord’s Return
Kinahanglan Nato Bantayan ang Pagbalik sa Ginoo

>Christ will come unexpectedly
>Faithful servants stay ready
>Live with expectancy

Mobalik si Cristo sa di-hunahunaon; ang matinud-anong alagad kanunay andam.

Application:
>Examine your heart daily
>Stay faithful in prayer and the Word
>Serve as if Jesus may come today

Susihi ang kasingkasing adlaw-adlaw, magpabilin sa pag-ampo ug Pulong sa Dios, ug alagari Siya nga daw moabot na si Jesus karon.

Conclusion:
Watchfulness is not fear—it is faithful obedience. A watchful believer is a prepared believer.
Ang pagbantay dili kahadlok, kundili matinud-anong pagtuman. Ang magtutuo nga nagabantay mao ang magtutuo nga andam.
“Watch therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” – Matthew 24:42
“Busa magbantay kamo, kay wala ninyo mahibaloi ang takna sa pag-abot sa inyong Ginoo.”
