PANAY-BUKIDNON MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS NOW AVAILABLE 🎶🎵😱
Rennel Lavilla — Gawad sa Gabay para sa mga Katutubo awardee — is the remaining artisan keeping the creation of these musical instruments alive in Panay 🥺
Rennel is a Panay-Bukidnon indigenous youth and musician. He creates traditional musical instruments, including his own unique take on subing or kubing, also known as the jaw harp.
His take on the instrument is carving traditional motifs and creating the end of the instrument after the kaluban, or the scabbard of a traditional blade. ⚔
Rennel also creates other musical instruments and has a set of 5 different instruments: the subing, tulali (flute), litgit (bamboo fiddle), suganggang (buzzer), and tikumbo (zither). 🎵

RECONSTRUCTION OF BISAYA ANCESTRAL IDOLS NOW AVAILABLE FOR US-BASED BUYERS 👀
In 1521, Antonio Pigafetta recorded carved wooden idols in Cebu when he visited the house of young Tupas's sick brother. Pigafetta described it like this:
"These idols are made of wood, and are hollow, and lack the back parts. Their arms are open and their feet turned up under them with legs open. They have a large face with four huge tusks like those of the wild boar, and are painted all over."
And this is the best we can come up with using that description, citing Austronesian ancestral idols and illustrations of Visayan tattoos. ☀
In historical records, Visayans called these carved figures "taw-taw/tau-tau" or "bata-bata."
Hand-carved by renowned Siquihodnon artist Jerom Dubongco, who brought back anitu figures throughout the island of Siquijor! ✨
