The stage of Cabacungan National High School turned into a runway of innovation as students walked gracefully in outfit stitched not from silk or velvet, but from leaves, coconut husks, and other organic materials. The annual Eco-Fashion Gala was more than just a parade of creativity, it was a living event where science came to life.

What made this year's gala stand out was its focus on environmental responsibility through design. Instead of using ordinary fabrics, students experimented with leaves, coconut husks, and other organic materials, and turning it to gowns, blending resourcefulness with style.

Some gowns flowed gracefully with layered leaves shaped like petals, while others were crafted from coconut fronds braided into skirts. A few student arranged dried leaves into intricate patterns, turning simple materials into elegant design. Each design was a symbol of how creativity can support sustainability.

The Eco-Fashion Gala of Cabacungan National High School was more than just a school program. It was a statement of nature. Students showed that even with simple tools and organic materials, big ideas can walk proudly on stage.

A pressing issue online on the flood control projects has drawn an alarming controversy within the public. The alleged division of budget from the proponents of the project eroded to anger for the people who experience extreme flooding and taxpayers due to the lack of transparency of project implementation. While the hidden budget cuts subsequently emerged in the past weeks, numerous names arose, and unexpected political personnel were claimed to be accomplices in stealing the allotted budget for the project.

Our country needs an efficient and safe place to live, and it is crucial to address the issue to ensure that every funded project is implemented, transparency is audited, and public officials are responsible for achieving the objective of the project. When a failure arises, they should also hold accountability.

August 19, 2025: Vince Dizon, the chief of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), admits the existence of 'ghost' flood control projects and promises to investigate the people behind them. Out of the information, ghosting the project is a disruption of safety procedures in mitigating the possible effects of floods in areas that are widely affected when rainy season comes. The DPWH has been problematic searching for an answer on how to keep places vulnerable to flooding while scrutinizing possible masterminds of the corruption activity.

Moreover, the private contractors have been involved in the said issue. Cezarah Rowena Cruz Discaya, also known as โ€œSarah Discaya,โ€ is one controversial contractor that has been viral online due to allegations of ghost flood control projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). The Senate continues its hearing on September 8, 2025, on the anomalous flood-control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways, in which several public officials and private contractors have been involved and are believed to have a cut on the budget for the flood-control project.

On the contrary, other contractors claim that their personal expenses that involve big monetary transactions do not involve money from the allotted budget for the flood control project; rather, the amount is coming from their savings, business, and personal budget. But in the senate hearing, the evidence shows that across different days and dates, more than a hundred million is audited to be spent.

To conclude, the โ€˜ghostโ€™ flood control project is a breakdown for our country as we wholeheartedly give our trust to the public officials and private contractors in securing and implementing the funded project to reality. It is crucial to think that we are fooled by our fellow Filipino citizens. As the money flows within their hands, there are people drowning in a crisis of floods. Being voiceless towards their hardships, seeking for help, and wishing for the flood to be mitigated by the flood control system brought to reality.

Public officials and private contractors must play their part in evaluating their actions to empower themselves to not engage in any corrupt practices and begin to live for the goodness of their fellowmen. For the public, they must be politically aware so that they are able to recognize the actions of the public servants and witness the improvements of the society through social media updates. We must be encouraged to live doing what is right and acting accordingly.
