EXPLAINER | The exponentially increasing population in the metropolitan area challenges the government and institutions to meet the demands of the people through urban development and economic progress.

Beyond its dense population, Metro Manila is also the home to various cultural sites where our past is retold and our cultural identity is shaped. However, when capitalist ventures meet incompetent urban planning, how are we to guarantee that heritage is vested with significance in the name of “progress”?

ICYMI | Student-leaders of UP Manila student councils and student publications along with the Office of the Student Regent (OSR), UP Solidaridad, and KASAMA sa UP meet with the UP Manila Administration at the Bobby Dela Paz Hall earlier today, May 29, as part of the UP Manila Year-end Kamustahan. The discussion touched upon points in the UP Manila Student Agenda and List of General Demands.

Chancellor Tee expressed his willingness to take part in lobbying a policy in coordination with UP student publications and the OSR to officially recognize college-wide student publications, and possibly formalize their funding.

All ongoing facility projects within the UP Manila campus and School of Health Sciences campuses are fully-funded, according to the UP Manila admin. The first five floors of the UP Manila Library and Learning Commons Building is projected to be accomplished by next year.

Currently, the administration is still looking for spaces for the equipment of the newly opened BS Radiologic Technology program, given the current spatial incapacity of the College of Allied Medical Professionals.

Asked how out-of-pocket expenses for required vaccines can be reduced, Chancellor Tee said that the administration will look into it, questioning the necessity of titers.
